A free cell phone program could benefit you. Safelink Wireless will supply a cell phone and 68 prepaid minutes per month free of charge. This program is called Lifeline Service.   The qualifications are listed below.

The application can be filled out online or can be mailed or faxed. The telephone number to request an application by mail or fax is 1-800-Safelink.

You qualify for Lifeline if:

1. You participate in one of the following assistance programs:

    • Federal Public Housing Assistance/Section 8  
    • Federal Social Security Disability
    • Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP)
    • MO HealthNet (Medicaid)
    • National School Lunch Program (NSL)
    • Payments Administered by the Family Support Division
    • State Aid to Blind Persons
    • State Blind Pension
    • State Supplemental Disability Assistance
    • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps)
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
    • Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF)
    • Veteran Administration Disability Benefits and                             

2. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Assistance through another phone carrier. If someone in your household receives Lifeline Assistance, that service must be canceled before you apply for Lifeline Service through SafeLink Wireless.  

3.  You have a valid United States Postal Address that is NOT a Post Office Box Number. To receive your FREE phone, you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office.

You must prove your eligibility by sending a copy of a document that shows your program participation. The following are examples of documents that accepted:     

    • A copy of your Food Stamps Card
    • Your Supplemental Security Income Statement
    • A document that contains your identification in that program
